Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
