A group of ten found guilty of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's identity.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
